This webinar was presented on November 14th, 2022 by the Tiger Husbandry Advisory Team (THAT)
Introducing tigers for breeding can be a very stressful experience especially to inexperienced staff, as the natural behaviors of this species can lead to aggression during the introduction event. The Tiger Husbandry Advisory Team (THAT) put together this webinar to help staff identify when a female is in estrus cycle (and therefore receptive to the male) to help set the breeding pair up for success. This webinar will include information on the physiology of the Tigers reproductive cycle, detailed information on how you can identify when a Tiger is in estrus and what are appropriate, affiliative behaviors from a male. We will be showing several video examples to help prepare your staff for introductions and breeding.
A second webinar in this series, Guidelines for Successful and Safe Tiger Breeding Introductions: Ready to Introduce was held in January 2023.
