Emergency Use of Vaccine Approved to Protect California Condors

The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has approved the emergency use of HPAI vaccine in an effort to prevent additional deaths of critically endangered California condors. A pilot safety study funded by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) will begin this month to investigate potential adverse effects of the authorized killed, inactivated vaccine in a similar species, North American vultures.
