Recent Bird Flu Infections in the U.S. Pose Low Risk to Public, CDC Says

Following the USDA’s firs detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a commercial turkey flock and previous detections of HPAI in wild birds, the CDC has issued a statement on the state of HPAI in the United States and its potential impact on public health.

At this time, the CDC considers the current risk to the general public from these HPAI A(H5) virus detections in U.S. wild birds and poultry to be low; however, risk depends on exposure, and people with more exposure may have greater risk of infection.
